New records on MOT, Borsa Italiana’s retail bond market, in May 2009

In May 2009 MOT, Borsa Italiana’s retail bond market, reached a new record on average daily value traded with 1,135 million euro. The previous record was in October 2008 when the average daily value traded reached  1,046 million euro.

The average daily value traded increased by 81.8% compared to May 2008 (624.2 million euro) while the average daily number of trades grow from 11,348 of May 2008 to 16,115 in May 2009, with an increase of 29.6%.
The total number of trades was 322,292 (+35.2% on May 2008) for a total value traded of € 22,7 billion (+73.2% on May 2008). 

In the period January-May 2009 the total value traded was 107.6 billion euro (69 billion euro in the same period of 2008) while the total trades were 1,685,402 (1,212,912 in the same period of 2008).

The average daily value traded in the same period increased from 657 million euro to 1,044 million euro while the average daily number of trades increased from 11,552 to 16,363.
