Borsa Italiana celebrates 200 years

In 2008 Borsa Italiana reaches its 200th anniversary.

On 16th January 1808 a vice-royal decree promulgated by Eugenio Napoleone officially inaugurated the “Borsa di Commercio” (commodities exchange) in Milan.

To celebrare its Bicentenary, Borsa Italiana has set up several initiatives:  in this web section you can find all details.

Published by Il Sole 24 Ore and edited by Fabio Tamburini, the book tells – through thirteen interviews to the most important economic and financial players – about changes which took place in Borsa Italiana and on the development of the Italian business world.
In the opening there is a talk between Ferruccio de Bortoli and Massimo Capuano.

The volume was distributed during the opening event which was held on February 15.

Fabio Tamburini is editor of the newswire Il Sole 24 Ore – Radiocor and of the daily 24 minuti. Before he was editor in chief at Il Mondo, correspondent at Repubblica and Sole 24 Ore, vice-editor of Milano Finanza and MF.

Borsa Italiana, in cooperation with FAI (the Foundation for Italian Environment), opened to the public Palazzo Mezzanotte on March 27th and 28th 2010.

Thanks to this initiative, people had the opportunity to visit Palazzo Mezzanotte - the headquarters of Borsa Italiana. Visitors walking through the site discovered the architectural heritage, covering the most important economic events which affected finance and Borsa Italiana from the beginning until today.

During the event called "Spring Day by FAI", held on April 5 and 6 2008, the initiative achieved significant results and Palazzo Mezzanotte was one of the most visited location in Italy, counting 5,500 visitors.

FAI is the most important Italian foundation to protect and handle creative, historical and environmental heritage of our Country.



History TourVisit History Tour, the web site that makes a journey through the history of the Italian Stock Exchange, enabling visitors to view a multi-media presentation illustrating the history of the Stock Exchange from its origins up until the present day.

Chronological, geographical and thematic sequences will provide a guide to the visitor, who can explore the various historical phases, the original locations of stock exchanges in Italian cities, and the personalities who were important in their development. Furthermore, explanations of the hand-signals in the days when brokers still used the open outcry system on the trading floor are given, with the successive methods of trading, and illustrations of the first listed securities; accompanied by texts, photographs, historical documents and film sequences – some of which date back to the first decades of the 20th century.
